Mackenzie Lide, an incoming 8th grader at Mount Pleasant Junior High school, has earned a Bronze Presidential Volunteer Service Award. Lide, the daughter of Mike and Jennifer Lide, received the award for completing 74 volunteer hours during the past 12 months.

Mackenzie was nominated for the award by MPHS teacher and Speech and Debate Coach Cody Morris. Morris had coached her in Debate at MPJHS and when he learned of her volunteer work decided to nominate her for the award.

According to Morris, it was because of her “commitment to community service and selfless ambition” that she deserved to be recognized by this award. She earned the volunteer hours through volunteer work in school, at church and in the community.

Mackenzie was recognized at the May 22, 2017 MPISD Board of Trustees meeting.
