Weather Update
We are all saddened by the tragedy in Oklahoma and our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. Severe weather is always a possibility in East Texas. Because of this, our campuses conduct regular severe weather drills so that our teachers, staff and students all know exactly what to do should severe weather become a reality.
Being aware of approaching weather systems helps us make sure our staff and students are safe. We constantly watch weather reports and take note of the emergency weather notifications issued by our Emergency Management Office.
With the ongoing potential for severe weather, MPISD wants you to know that we are taking steps to make sure your children are as safe as possible. To that end, we are conducting tornado drills this week.

Superintendent's Message
It’s amazing to me how rapidly this year seems to be flying by. The end-of-the-year activities on our campuses are already in full swing. Check out the calendar on this webpage to see what’s going on.

But no matter how fast the year is going and how many activities fill our calendars, we remain committed to our vision that every child will have every chance to learn, and the entire staff – teachers, administrators, aides, secretaries, custodians, cafeteria workers - is committed to our mission: to graduate students with the ability to read, think and communicate.

Someone once said it takes a village to raise a child. That may be true, but I think we all agree that it takes adults who love children and are passionate about learning to open a child’s eyes to the possibilities and excitement of learning. I like a quote I once heard: “Children have to be educated, but they have also to be left to educate themselves.”

We are engaged in helping children become independent learners through inductive learning and student-center ed classrooms. An old Chinese proverb should be our guide in all we do in classrooms: Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand. I have no doubt that every member of the Mount Pleasant Learning Community is dedicated and committed to every child that enters our doorways in helping them discover the joy of learning.

Opening that door for students culminates in graduation. Our seniors are getting excited about walking across the stage and into their futures on June 7. But our kindergarten students are getting excited about entering First Grade. And at each grade level we have fulfilled our mission to get students ready for the next grade. We are here to celebrate their successes and to give each child and teacher the applause they so richly deserve. My prayer is that we have opened the door of not only the possible but also the impossible to everyone we touch.

You can keep up to date by following us on Twitter and liking us on Facebook. To find out how just click on the symbols on this page or contact our Public Information Office. We invite you to join us in the most important mission on earth.
