Brice Second Graders Study Animal Habitats

Second graders at E.C. Brice Elementary School turned a study of animals and they habitats into an art project we well as they created dioramas for the animals they studied.

“The purpose of the project was to research an animal and its habitat,” explained Brice 2nd grade teacher Candace Heeren,  “Our students learned how their animal is adapted to survive in its habitat.  They also learned about the basic needs that needed to be met and physical characteristics that helped the animal to survive. A lot of good discussion was created as students shared their animal and what they had learned. This reinforced their presentation skills as they showcased their projects and information to their classmates and the younger and older students at E.C. Brice”.

The animals weren’t your “normal” cats and dogs. Students researched animals like the pangolin, the cottontail rabbit, a blue whale, a tree frog, the American Alligator, a box turtle, an Emperor Penguin, a mustang, the Great White Shark and the Gray Wolf.

“One of the student's favorite parts of this activity was learning about animals that they had never even heard of before, such as a pangolin,” Heeren added.
