When the Pizza Hut Book It! Principal Challenge arrived on her desk, Frances Corprew Elementary School Principal Estelle Deloney accepted it immediately. The challenge? To read to students one entire school day from the first bell to the last.

So on Thursday, November 10, Deloney cleared her calendar and spent the day in her office reading to students from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

“I read my heart out today,” Deloney said at the end of the day. “But it was for a great cause – to set an example for my students that reading is important.”

The Principal’s Challenge is issued yearly in recognition of National Young Readers Week (November 7-11). The purpose of the Challenge is to raise awareness for the importance of literacy and generate a passion for reading among young people.
