MPJHS Students Qualify for Duke Talent Identification Program

Eighteen Mount Pleasant Junior High School 7th Grade students were invited to participate in the Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP) and took either the ACT or the SAT, both college-entrance exams. Three students chose to take the SAT while fifteen took the ACT.

Taking the SAT were Taylor Hubbs, Katherine Ochoa, and Kurion Walker. Taking the ACT were Jayden Beckham, Samuel Brown, Nic Chappell, Parker Colley, Connelly Cowan, Gissel Delgado, Jacob Elliott, Tyler Elmore, Ruby Ferretiz, Jenny Flores, Marco Garcia, Mackenzie Lide, Tyson Minter, Joshua Roach, and Genesis Robertson.

Duke TIP’s 7th Grade Talent Search identifies students across the United States who have scored at or above the 95th percentile on a grade-level standardized test. As part of the program, these academically talented students take above-level college-entrance exams to learn more about their abilities.

“We congratulate these students for taking on the challenge of the ACT and SAT,” said Dr. Judi Saxton, MPISD’s Director of Communication. “These tests are not easy for the high school juniors and seniors who normally take them.”
