Mt. Pleasant Independent School District earned 16 Academic Distinctions from the Texas Education Agency in the just released 2016 Accountability Report.  In addition to the distinctions, the District and each of its campuses Met Standards in each category and among each subgroup.

“We are extremely proud of our teachers and students for this achievement,” said MPISD Superintendent of Schools Judd Marshall. “Three years ago we had five improvement required campuses. To go from that to where we are now is a testament to the dedication of our teachers and administrators. We are not where we want to be yet, but we are a whole lot closer now.”

While earning distinctions is a goal to be worked towards, “Meeting Standards is what we are graded on by the state,” Marshall added. “We will continue to work on meeting standards but will also strive towards earning academic distinctions as well.”

Mt. Pleasant High School earned six of seven possible distinctions.  The school missed earning a distinction in Top 25 % Student Progress. “That one is very hard to earn when the vast majority of the top 25% of students are at or almost at the top already,” explained Dr. Judi Saxton, MPISD‘s Director of Communication.

Annie Sims Elementary earned distinctions in the five areas they were eligible in in: ELA/Reading, Mathematics, Student Progress, Closing the Readiness Gap and Postsecondary Readiness.  Vivian Fowler Elementary earned distinctions in Mathematics, Closing the Readiness Gap and Postsecondary Readiness. P.E. Wallace Middle Scholl earned distinctions in ELA/Reading and Mathematics.
