The Mount Pleasant High School Bass Fishing Team competed in their first Texas High School Bass Fishing Association Tournament at Lake Palestine September 19 and placed 11th out of 20 teams.  All seven of the individual two-man teams placed well among the 148 teams in the Tournament.

“This was a great first effort for our students,” said MPISD Director of Student Services Brian McAdams. “Our high school team is only a couple of months old and beat out more established teams from all over East Texas.”

Competing in the tournament were John Blaylock, Hayden Collard, Michael Cortez, Casey Cutler, Blake Denson, Gavin Dethrow, Colton Guest, Jakob Hill, Andrew Matkin, Hayden McBride, Hunter Roberts, Sophia Sanchez, Daniel Slone and Rowdy Townsend. The team also includes new members Austin Dryden and Alex Rigney.

In Texas High School Bass Fishing Association Tournaments, each high school team is in a boat captained by an adult. Boat captains for the MPHS team are Danny Cutler, Alan Denson, Bob Dethrow, Dennis Dryden, Charles Hammock,
Tommy Hill, Bobby Slone, and Tony Townsend.

“MPISD and MPHS would like to thank all of the sponsors who are making the MPHS Bass Fishing Team Possible,” said McAdams. These include American National Bank, Big Tex Trailers, Condors Trailer Sales, Elliott Motors, First Federal Bank, Hunter’s Creek Ranch, International Sulphur, Inc., Jackson Oil Co., Inc., LMP Concrete, MK Pallets, Newly Weds Foods, Pelican Cooler, Priefert, Rockwell America and Santone Lures.
