This Week is Red Ribbon Week at Mount Pleasant ISD.

Between Monday, October 24 and Friday, October 29, the campuses of MPISD will schedule special events to inform students about the dangers of drug abuse and to encourage students to take a pledge to “Say No to Drugs”.

“Red Ribbon Week is a special time that we can let our students and staff know about the district’s commitment to be drug free,” said Dr. Judi Saxton, the district’s Director of Communication.  “By planning special activities at the campus level, we can direct the message to our students in a way they will all understand.”

Each campus adopts a theme for each day of the week.  Students and staff then dress according to the theme.  Many of the campuses also plan age appropriate special programs to encourage students to stay drug free.

Vivian Fowler Elementary School will start the week with their annual March Against Drugs and red balloon release on Monday. Wallace Middle School will begin the week with an assembly during which the G/T students will give a presentation on the history of Red Ribbon Week. The MPHS Student Council will set up a “Graveyard of Bad Choices” in the cafeteria depicting the real lives of those affected by drugs or alcohol. The MPHS Varsity Tigers, Cheerleaders and Tiger Dolls will be speaking and performing on the elementary school campuses throughout the week.

Many of the campuses also have classroom door decorating contests, poster contests and essay contests.  The focus during the entire week is the benefits of staying drug-free.

For more information on the activities on each of the MPISD campuses, refer to the calendar below, contact your child’s school or contact the
